The Raymond-Bourque Arena in Montreal’s Saint-Laurent borough underwent a major 3-year upgrade before announcing its reopening in summer 2022. The $28.8 million investment is part of the municipal arena upgrade program adopted in 2010. While improving the building’s energy efficiency and aiming for LEED Silver certification, all the spaces were restored to facilitate access for people with reduced mobility.
First in 2018, the firm TLA Architectsin charge of the project, contacted the Atmosphäre team to refurbish the bases of the facility’s two ice rinks. Since the heating system was completely overhauled and more environmentally friendly, the choice of a seat that didn’t obstruct the permanent heating under the benches was the right one. What’s more, the heat emitted by the refrigeration system’s compressors is reused and distributed under the seats, resulting in energy savings of around 40%.
Le Fusion seatby Hussey Seating was the perfect solution for the new heating system in the 1,142-seat main rink. In fact, its high riser intermediate jamb enabled the seats to be installed in a way that did not conflict with the system. Its ergonomics have been designed for sporty use, ensuring long-lasting comfort.
The second 205-seat rink is now equipped with Hussey Seating’sCourtside XC10 shells anchored directly to the concrete bleachers. This offers far greater comfort than sitting on a concrete surface.
These major renovations will enable the borough to use its facilities 12 months a year. In the past, the main rink at Aréna Raymond-Bourque was not accessible for 3-4 months a year due to insulation problems. The availability of ice cream during the summer season has now been improved. In all, nearly 1,400 seats are available for spectators .
