An intergenerational park
Le
Parc des Mouettes in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield
has given itself a facelift, modernizing and reinventing itself! Its initial vision was to promote a mix of generations, and we can say that it’s mission accomplished! The intergenerational park welcomes, among others, children from a brand-new Day-care Center nearby, teenagers who live in the neighborhood, and seniors who will soon be living in the new seniors’ home also nearby. The project was intended to be inclusive and participatory, in a neighborhood that was undergoing a complete overhaul with the arrival of new families.
Activities for everyone
The design, a perfect blend of modernity and nature, was created by landscape architecture firm KAP. By integrating the new
connected outdoor fitness equipment
and the very first
first Cliff Rider in Quebec
the park has set a new benchmark in intergenerational development. The town was keen to promote contact with nature, with a focus on wooden play equipment. KOMPAN’s Robinia collection for toddlers created a unique reminder of the concept put forward by the landscape architects.
The fitness area includes Kompan’s brand-new connected bikes and elliptical trainers, offering an excellent cardiovascular workout. Equipped with a touchscreen display showing real-time performance, they can also be connected to a mobile application via Kompan. The equipment runs on a self-powered motor, creating a resistance similar to that of racing bikes.
Citizens in other Salaberry-de-Valleyfield neighborhoods have especially noticed the arrival of this outdoor fitness equipment, and demand is high in other parts of the city. On the subject of the brand-new Cliff Rider, this is an impressive module that trains muscular strength and tension. It represents a physical challenge for children and teenagers, but also a socio-emotional one. Self-confidence, risk management and mutual support are stimulated.
Since the park’s redevelopment, the city has seen strong growth in visitor numbers. This is the guarantee of a project that has met the needs of the population.
Congratulations also to the nine other winners of the Excellence 2022 awards for their projects and their generous work for municipal recreation!
