Transforming an environmental challenge into a living space

In partnership with the firm EXP, the City of Lachine has undertaken the redevelopment of Brewster Park, a site whose primary vocation was sustainable stormwater management and water retention in a natural basin.

Rather than treating this challenge as a constraint, the team chose to turn it into an opportunity to embellish the environment and offer families a place to relax integrated with nature.
Interventions had to remain discreet and respectful of the site, working within the limits of the existing playgrounds and preserving the mature trees.

The mandate thus combined technical expertise, landscape design and a playful approach, the perfect terrain for combining the know-how of EXP and Atmosphäre.

A playful, natural approach from Atmosphäre

Atmosphäre worked with the City of Lachine to select sustainable equipment in perfect harmony with the wooded character of the site. Robinia wood, from the Kompan Robinia range, proved to be the material of choice thanks to resistance, warmth and eco-friendly origin.

The selected structures combine movement, balance and inclusion, promoting active play that respects the environment.

A natural world on their scale

Designed for children aged 18 months to 5 years, this play area offers a natural world on their scale, conducive to sensory discovery and imagination.
The Beaver Lodge becomes the center of a small forest world where climbing, crawling and hiding arouse curiosity.

Around them, the playful characters – a Bee and a Snail – add a touch of whimsy and movement.
The soft textures of the wood, the rocking and rounded shapes stimulate motor skills, confidence and early cooperative play.

A course that sets body and mind in motion

The 5 to 12 years area offers a playground where strength, coordination and mutual aid are the order of the day.
Children explore a balancing and climbing course of ropes, nets and wooden platforms.

The Cocowave pendulum brings young and old together in a collective movement punctuated by laughter, while the Turbo Challenge and Robinia spinning top test agility and endurance.
Each structure encourages self-transcendence and cooperation, while blending seamlessly into the natural setting.

A sustainable, lively and unifying space

Thanks to this collaboration between EXP, Atmosphäre and the City of Lachine, Brewster Park has become an example of the balance between environmental engineering and human design.

Wooden playgrounds, conserved green areas and water management solutions complement each other to offer a sustainable, inclusive and inspiring place.
A space where children play, parents relax and nature fully breathes.

Brewster Park demonstrates how thoughtful design can transform an environmental issue into an inspiring collective experience.
