Pole Famille – La Fontaine Park

Pole Famille – La Fontaine Park

Montréal

Atmosphäre, creator of distinctive and thoughtful public spaces, is delighted to unveil the new playground in the family section of Parc La Fontaine, designed in collaboration with KOMPAN, the world leader in recreational concepts. This signature project ranks among the most grandiose on the international scene, and establishes the iconic site in the city of Montreal as the largest destination park in Quebec.

“It’s an honour to have been able to revitalize one of the metropolis’s landmarks into a space that meets the needs of its citizens,” says Maryse Sauvé, President of Atmosphäre.

Throughout the process, many factors were taken into consideration to design inclusive play structures, regardless of the users’ level of motor or cognitive ability.

A half-loop has been dedicated to older children, offering them a ropes course on multiple levels, including a tower over 8m high offering a breathtaking view of the existing canopy and the majestic tree at the centre of the playground.

A second half-loop, designed for children in the Early Years group, encourages multiple climbing elements to provide a graduated experience with net zones of different sizes. Numerous tactile elements to manipulate have been integrated at floor level to stimulate users’ sensory and cognitive development.

The new recreational concept is based on the idea of a “continuous thread”, enabling the whole family to enjoy experiences that match their abilities, in a safe space where they can have fun at their own pace. The layout includes several rest areas.

“This innovative project, the only one of its kind in the world, combines a green oasis with the benefits of development through play, and we’re very proud of it. We hope that the playground will enable new generations to enjoy precious moments with their families,” concludes Mme Sauvé.

A project carried out in collaboration with Mousse Architecture and Civiliti.
