GreenLine by KOMPAN: An eco-responsible playground

Kompan has always been concerned about the environment and children’s future when designing its play structures. In 2014, we launched Ecocore, a structural panel made from 100% recycled materials and recyclable at the end of its life.

Then, in 2015, came the Robinia range, made from naturally sustainable Robinia wood. In 2021 followed the decision to abandon the use of tropical-sourced wood in all their products.

This year, Kompan takes its eco-responsible choices to a whole new level with the introduction of the GreenLine range. By choosing By reducing its carbon emissions at the very source of its production and opting for post-consumer recycled materials, the world leader in children’s playgrounds now offers an ecological solution for a greener future.

Choosing lower carbon emissions

For a better future, we must all take responsibility for reducing carbon emissions. According to the United Nations, we need to reduce carbon emissions by 45% by 2030. This will enable us to keep the temperature rise to just 1.5 degrees.

More specifically in industry, over 80% of carbon emissions come from raw materials. Kompan has therefore taken up the challenge of developing entirely new, sustainable raw materials with its suppliers.

The result? The new products in the GreenLine range are now supplied with a 50% reduction in carbon emissions compared with similar products.

GreenLine: Materials that make all the difference

Kompan has succeeded in reducing its carbon emissions by choosing eco-friendly products. These products are either green by nature or have become green.

Eco-responsible products that are green by nature already have very low carbon emissions, such as the Robinia range, made from wood from sustainable forestry.

The new green products are made from post-consumer recycled materials such as marine waste, used textiles, food packaging waste, used plastic bags and so on.

The wood

The Robinia wood and pine harvested for our products come from sustainable forestry. This means that the wood used is selected for harvesting and planting. What’s more, the harvest is carefully controlled.

Plastic from the ocean<

Over 640,000 tonnes of fishing gear are discarded in the ocean every year. Kompan recycles marine waste and uses it instead of virgin plastics. In concrete terms, all the bearings in the Greenline range are made from 75% recycled ocean waste .

Textile waste

Worldwide textile waste increased by more than 800% between 1960 and 2015. For Kompan, this is no waste: the textile has proved highly suitable for use in the posts of play structures. Textile is treated and blended with recycled plastic to create a durable playground post with a long service life. 82% reduction in carbon emissions per kg.

The very first GreenLine pilot project based on the global goals of sustainability and the circular economy was launched this year at Randers Hospital in Mid-Jutland, Denmark. With this project, Kompan has proved that it is possible to create an eco-responsible playground that is just as much fun as a standard playground.

Atmosphäre is proud to be the exclusive distributor of Kompan products in Quebec, and to share the same values of innovation and eco-responsibility. Would you like to contact our team to design your very first eco-friendly playground? Contact us today.
